Fox River Good Earth Review
Fox River Bio-Fiber Socks
I came across Fox River Bio-Fiber Good Earth Collection socks recently and picked up a pair of hiking crews to try out. Sadly the small outfitter I was in only had the mens in my size, I will survive though.
I prefer to wear hiking socks daily and am pretty brutal overall to what can be an expensive habit. The price of the Good Earth Collection is lower than most hiking socks are - so this was a bonus right off. The socks are also produced in the United States. Add in no wool yet they feel like merino wool? The company claims that on the bio-fiber:
"Ingeo™ (corn)
Ingeo™ fiber is the first man-made fiber derived from 100% natural, annually renewable resources like corn. It has low odor retention, offering the wearer optimum comfort, confidence and freshness. It is soft to the hand and feels natural against the skin. Ingeo’s excellent wicking properties transport moisture away from the foot. It dries very quickly, has superior low pilling performance, does not cause allergic reaction in third-party testing, and does not support bacterial proliferation. When products made of Ingeo™ come to the end of their useful life they can be returned to the earth without any negative impact on the environment unlike the problematic petroleum based products."
So my thoughts?
These are nice socks. They have great stretch. They go on smoothly, they don't bunch up. I would rate them up with the higher end wool socks I normally wear. And unlike my high end wool socks, these ones don't cause overheating in the house. My feet have felt cool when they are on.
What is also nice is no funky embroidered designs (yes, REI, I'd love to know....why do you embroider socks right where the boot hits your ankle??) and a clean simple cut.
They carry a number of choices in the Good Earth Collection - I will be picking up some of the women's styles soon as well. They also have choices that are made of organic merino wool as well. I had a chance to feel them - they are very luxurious!
