Weight: 1lbs, 14 oz

MSRP: $129 USD

As one who likes to take the kitchen sink on a dayhike, I have found the Osprey Talon 33 daypack a hauler. It has a top loading main compartment, with a roomy top pocket. The main compartment is perfect for stashing a closed cell foam sit pad, 10 essentials, stove, fuel canister, and extra clothes. A water bladder can be stowed in between the harness and the main body. The Talon features two woven stretch pockets on the side and one on the front of the pack. In addition, the hip belt features two zippered pockets perfect for energy bars, knife, lighter, or lip balm. If that wasn’t enough pockets, the shoulder straps also have two small stretch pockets.

The Talon Airscape backpanel allows plenty of airflow, making the pack comfortable in warmer weather. The harness system is also adjustable for extra maneuverability. The design on the side of the pack, (flames, talons?) are also useful, they are reflective.

The Talon is a great pack for long haul dayhikes, where I have been known to take the 10 Essentials, plus stove, cookpot, lightweight shelter and raingear. The serious ultralighter can even get in an overnighter with this pack The lightweight straps make the pack feel is if it weren’t even there.

Only a couple of gripes to mention, the waist straps are horribly awkward to tighten and loosen and the buckles could be a little more durable.

All in all, the Osprey Talon is a solid, spacious, comfortable pack.
